Tell us about yourself
I live in Lake St. Louis with my wife Jenny and we have 2 kids Kayln and Katie who also work out at CFT when they get the opportunity. I enjoy playing just about any sport but mostly volleyball and snowboarding. I work from home which I’m sure everyone can tell because I disrupt every warmup finally getting to talk to real people (sorry coaches!).
What made you start CrossFit?
I first tried CrossFit back in 2008 because it was an exciting new approach to boring “globo gym” workouts. It was addicted from the first workout and I started looking forward to seeing what I could achieve the next day.
What were your thoughts after your first workout at CFT?
My first workout at CFT was like a big reset for me. I had some injuries from an accident in 2010 that prevented me from working out for about 5 years. I was amazed at how much they understood my injury and limitations at that time. On that first day, Travis showed me ways I could do some complex movements without re-injuring myself which I was very impressed with. I tried to get back into CrossFit a number of times over that 5 years and I would always get re-injured. The coaches at CFT are the only reason I’m doing CrossFit today.
What impact has CrossFit had in your life in and outside the gym?
CrossFit makes me put maximum effort into every workout in the gym and It keeps me feeling young and active in and outside of the gym. I can compete in sports with people of all ages and it’s definitely due to the intensity of CrossFit workouts.
If you had to write a WOD, what would it be?
Heavy deadlifts and double unders! I love workouts with a lot of weight, chippers and partner WODs.
What’s your diet like? How does nutrition play a role in your life?
I go through spurts of good diets but overall, I try to not eat total crap. My meals are normally good during the week but on the weekends, I let loose a little bit. I’ve been eating healthy most of my life so eating decently healthy is just a normal meal for me.
What advice would you give to a new CrossFitter?
Like everyone says, stick with it! I would also say to get to know the people you’re working out with. CrossFit is not just a workout, it’s a community. Once you get to know people, team up with someone that you enjoy working out with or if you want to be challenged, work with someone that challenges you. I personally like a little friendly competition.
What’s your favorite motivational quote and why?
“My fear of failure never approached in magnitude my fear of “what if”. What if I never tried at all? “ Will Ferrell
Everyone fails at something every day, failure is a learning. If you don’t try, you already failed. This quote is something we face in the gym all the time. Nobody cares if you fail, but they do care that you tried!
