Love Jesus. Love being a wife and mom. I have four kids, ages ranging from 11-21 and enjoy all the commotion that brings! My happy place is being outside. I enjoy going for long hikes…especially in CO!
What made you start CrossFit?
About 10 years ago I started walking for fitness. Walking turned into running once someone gave me a tip on how to breathe! For the next few years my friend and I enjoyed running and doing half marathons. It was a fun time, but we needed/wanted more. She knew someone who was just getting into CrossFit and she talked me into trying it out in their garage. It wasn’t long before I was hooked. The variety and challenge of CrossFit keeps me coming back. Yes, it’s hard, but at least I’m never bored!
What were your thoughts after your first workout at CFT?
After that first “garage” wod, I thought my friend was nuts for suggesting it and I was crazy for attempting it! With no athletic background, but loads of enthusiasm, I kept getting myself injured. I wasn’t exercising “smart”. I was engaging the wrong muscle groups for many movements. A couple of years later, after my first CFTrenches wod, I felt relieved! It’s been super helpful to have coaches that watch carefully and focus on teaching correct technique.
What impact has CrossFit had in your life in and outside the gym?
First and foremost, it provides a healthy outlet for dealing with the craziness of life! I can also see that it has strengthened me physically, mentally, and given me the confidence to try new things.
If you had to write a WOD, what would it be?
I LOVE variety so it would likely include a lot of different movements…except maybe not T2B!
What’s your diet like? How does nutrition play a role in your life?
I hate the word diet! I’m finding that intermittent fasting works well for me. I just focus on eating foods that make my gut happy. That tends to be a lot of fruits, veggies, nuts, and seeds. Getting enough protein and limiting sugar are my ongoing challenges…and I have serious doubts that I will ever give up pizza! 🙂
What advice would you give to a new CrossFitter?
Make CrossFit work for you! Most everything can be modified. Pay attention to your body and just keep moving!
