Growing up, I was very active in sports or playing outside in general. I was never one to sit inside, and I was constantly on the move. I played competitive softball and volleyball through high school which kept me very active. After high school, I continued my softball career at Lindenwood University. Two a day conditioning workouts kept me in decent shape, but not enough to balance out my college diet of Hot-n-Ready pizza and Natural Light. After college, my softball career came to an end, and I found myself very inactive and very out of shape. I tried every type of exercise from hours on the treadmill, yoga, spinning, half-marathons and the typical globo gym workouts, but I always found myself dissatisfied with it all. It was more work getting myself motivated to go workout than anything else. It wasn’t until my sister-in-law and mother-in-law mentioned a cross training class at the local gym in Lake St. Louis that I found myself actually excited to workout. I immediately loved the different movements that each class entailed but soon realized I wanted more. This is when I found Crossfit Trenches.
I probably contacted Trenches two or three times before I built up the courage to walk in the door. I knew some of the movements from the cross training class before, but the coaches at Trenches were really patient with me and explained every movement in detail. I was immediately hooked, and after one class my husband and I signed up. CrossFit has given me an outlet to be an athlete again. Because of CrossFit, I am mentally and physically stronger than I ever was as a college athlete. But more than that, CrossFit has given me a true sense of community. Not only do I get to spend quality time with my sister-in-law and husband, but I also get to spend time with our new friends at Trenches doing something we all love. I love that everyone at Trenches is there to not only improve themselves, but to encourage others. I hope that all athletes have the courage to walk in the door and fall in love with CrossFit like I have. I’m excited to have this opportunity to coach and share my passion with all the athletes at Trenches!
